Punters' delight at 3D debut

Landlord Mark Phillips and his son Andrew, celebrate the first 3D screening at the Grenville ArmsThree-dimensional TV made its Clay Country debut on Saturday, much to the delight of football fans.

The first 3D football match in the area was screened at St Austell Brewery’s Grenville Arms, Nanpean.

More than 50 people donned 3D glasses for the big event – the Manchester United versus Chelsea football match.

Landlord Mark Phillips said: “Customers came from Wadebridge and Lostwithiel to watch it, and they loved it.

“It was like being in the stadium, which really added to the atmosphere.

“Although the Manchester United fans were disappointed with the result, they were delighted with the experience – as was I. We took four times as much behind the bar as a normal football match.”

 

St Austell Brewery goes bananas… and apples and oranges!

Bob, Kayleigh, Michele and Dean joined James Staughton, Managing Director of St Austell Brewery, at the first day of the schemeSt Austell Brewery is trialling a new scheme to help its staff to eat healthily at work and get their five-a-day. 

Generous supplies of free fruit will be on offer daily for all 300 staff based across the Brewery’s St Austell HQ, its main distribution centre at St Columb Major and depots at Heathfield, Cullompton and Ilfracombe.

St Austell’s Proper Job gets brewers’ vote

Adrian Staley, National Sales Manager for St Austell Brewery, is presented the Gold Award by Alex Barlow, of competition sponsors ALL BEER.St Austell Brewery beers have scooped Gold and Silver Awards at the highly prestigious Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) National Beer Competition. 

The hugely popular Proper Job was awarded the Gold Award, making it the best bottle conditioned beer produced by an independent brewery in the UK.  The brewery’s Black Prince took the Silver Award in the mild beer category.

Home-cured and ‘ansome!

Polgooth Inn, St Autell - Chef Neil ClemesWith the difficulties the pub and catering trade has been facing in the last year or so, alongside the growing interest in food sourcing, and keeping things local, the Polgooth Inn near St Austell is getting back to basics to make sure their customers know exactly what they are getting on their plate.

As well as making their own meaty burgers and marinating olives on site, they are now curing their own ham, and making their own sausages, with plans in the pipeline to make hogs pudding and cure bacon in-house too.
