St Austell Brewery’s longest serving tenant will this month celebrate an impressive half a century behind the bar.
Rick Shackelton has been at the Bucket of Blood in Phillack, Hayle, since 1963 when his parents Dick and Ida took over the unusually named 18th century pub.
After Rick’s father passed away in 1965, Ida ran the inn until 1974 when she handed the reins to her son.
Nowadays, the Bucket of Blood is still very much a family business, with three generations contributing to its continuing success and welcoming atmosphere.
Rick and his wife Sue are joined by son Philip, who looks after things when they are away, and Philip’s 21-year-old daughter Alannah who helps out behind the bar.
