Gig teams pull together and pay Tribute

Jeremy Mitchell with Falmouth Ladies BGig teams from across Cornwall came together at St Austell Brewery’s visitor centre on Friday night (Friday October 16) to celebrate the end of the season.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation ceremony with the winners of the Tribute Series, which is sponsored by St Austell Brewery’s flagship ale, Tribute.

Hosted by the Cornish Pilot Gig Association, the annual Tribute Series sees teams from across the county take to the water off the Cornish coast to compete in a series of races in June and July.

The evening’s presentation ceremony was a double success for Caradon men’s team with both the A and B teams stepping up to collect trophies for winning their groups.

In the ladies events, Mounts Bay collected the trophy for winning the A group and the top title in the B group was awarded to Falmouth.

On the evening, tribute was also paid to Penryn juniors who came first in their group, with Mounts Bay and Fowey following in second and third place.

Jeremy Mitchell, St Austell Brewery’s Marketing and Communications Director, said: “We were delighted to once again host the Tribute Series presentation at St Austell Brewery. More than 100 rowers came together and celebrated what was an eventful tournament earlier this year. As a company whose roots are very much Cornish, St Austell Brewery is pleased to offer ongoing support to the Cornish Pilot Gig Association.”
