The St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust has given a cash boost to support the work of local charity, CHICKS. 

The Charitable Trust, which supports charities across the South West, has donated £800 to Tywardreath-based CHICKS. The money will be used by the charity to help provide free respite care for a local underprivileged child at its Coastal Retreat base near Par.

Marc added’: “The Charitable Trust raises money thanks to the huge amount of effort and goodwill our fundraisers and supporters put in, most of whom are St Austell Brewery staff and landlords who donate their own time to stage the activities and events that generate valuable funds.” 

Mick Ryan, Cornwall Community Fundraiser said, “We have a new target to support 1200 underprivileged children in 2010.  As we receive no government funding we rely solely on individual donations, corporate sponsors, community groups and trusts.  Many children from Cornwall have enjoyed a free respite break with CHICKS and, thanks to donations such as this one from the St Austell Brewery’s Charitable Trust; we look forward to welcoming many more next year.”

The St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust was set up to act independently to the brewery with the aim of raising and donating funds to good causes and local charities within the St Austell Brewery trading area, which covers the whole of Cornwall but also includes Devon, Dorset and Somerset. 

Since its launch in 2003, the Trust has raised more than £184,000 for charities across the region. This year, the Charitable Trusts main beneficiary is Cornwall Hospice Care, but many other local charities will benefit from the continued funds raised throughout 2009.
