St Austell Brewery re-launched its charitable trust with new vigour at this year’s Royal Cornwall Show, kicking it off with a £5,000 donation to Cornwall Hospice Care.
The family-owned business – one of Cornwall’s largest independent employers – hopes the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust will raise £50,000 this year alone.
The trust has raised a whopping £217,000 since it was started in 2003, with donations going to well-known charities, local good causes and individuals who need help. One of this year’s chosen charities is Cornwall Hospice Care, which runs the county’s two adult hospices.
Jeremy Mitchell, Marketing Director of St Austell Brewery, said: “As a family-owned business with a long history in Cornwall, we are proud and excited to be re-launching the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust.
“The local community is at the heart of everything we do and it’s important we give something back as a thank you for all the support we receive.
“As a Cornish company we are dedicated to helping Cornish people, which is why we’ve chosen Cornwall Hospice Care as one of this year’s nominated good causes.”
Money is raised by individual pubs and employees through events such as darts tournaments, sponsored walks and quizzes, plus the annual Celtic Beer Festival in November.
Trevor Bould, Finance Director of Cornwall Hospice Care, said: “We are delighted to have received such a fantastic donation from St Austell Brewery and are grateful for their continued support.
“Due to limited funding from government sources we are extremely reliant on the support and generosity of local businesses and the wider community to enable us to continue to provide adult hospice care to the people of Cornwall.”
