One of Plymouth’s most iconic pubs – the Waterfront, on Grand Parade – is to get a new lease of life after being taken over by a local family.
The prominent waterside pub, which will be renamed The Old Waterfront, is expected to reopen by the end of July after a significant investment by St Austell Brewery and the new leaseholders.
St Austell Brewery has been searching for a new leaseholder since the start of the year, when the former leaseholder went into administration.
Adam Luck, St Austell Brewery’s Estate Director, said: “Unsurprisingly, we have had a great deal of interest in the Waterfront, and we are delighted the lease has been awarded to a Plymouth family, who were the strongest applicants.”
The family’s vision for the pub is to create a friendly atmosphere, with quality food and drinks at everyday prices.
Mr Luck said: “The new leaseholders bring a wealth of experience and we’re confident they will do a fantastic job in putting the Waterfront firmly back on the map as one of Plymouth’s premier pubs.”
