The lucky winner of St Austell Brewery’s Carlsberg competition will be heading to Copenhagen in May – along with the landlord of the Carbeile Inn, Torpoint where the winning pint was bought.
To celebrate 30 years of working together, St Austell Brewery and Carlsberg teamed up to offer Carlsberg drinkers in all 176 of the Brewery’s pubs the chance to win an all expenses paid weekend in Copenhagen.
For every pint of Carlsberg bought during the weekend of 22-24 October, customers received a scratch card giving them the chance to win a free pint or to be entered into a prize draw to win the trip to Copenhagen.
The prize-winning pint of Carlsberg was bought by Liz Sherfield at the Carbeile Inn, Torpoint, which was announced live on Pirate FM.
Liz and her partner Richard will enjoy free flights, two nights in Copenhagen, £500 spending money and tours of St Austell Brewery and the Carlsberg brewery in Copenhagen.
Liz said: “I was very surprised when I found out I’d won the competition, and the day it was announced on the radio was my birthday, so it was a brilliant birthday present! I’ve never been to Denmark before and I’m very much looking forward to taking the trip.”
Liz is not the only one celebrating, as landlord of the Carbeile Inn, Grahame Rickard, has found out that he will also be taking the trip.
He said: “As well as the scratch card competition, there was also a competition for the best decorated pub to go on the trip as well. When we got a call from the Brewery to say that one of our customers had won, I was a little disappointed as I thought they were going to say we were the winners!
“When Liz arrived for the photo shoot, Maurice Sweeney from Carlsberg totally shocked me by saying that I would be going on the trip to Copenhagen as well. This is the second time I’ve won a Carlsberg competition with St Austell Brewery, which I’m very proud of, and I can’t wait to take the holiday.”
Carlsberg representative Maurice Sweeney commented: “Carlsberg is thrilled to be celebrating our 30 year special relationship with St Austell Brewery, and what better way to celebrate than giving away a fantastic weekend in the home of Carlsberg?
“The winners and their guests will be able to visit the Carlsberg brewery and also visit a Danish pub which sells Tribute, as well as seeing the sites of the city. Congratulations to Liz and Grahame, we hope they have a fantastic weekend.”
