St Austell Brewery has become one of the first regional brewers in the country to launch its very own iphone application, “St Austell Brewery In My Pocket”, which went live on Thursday, March 31.
Applications, commonly known as apps, are programmes downloaded onto mobile phones with entertainment or practical functions, such as games, fitness, business, news and travel. Ten billion apps had been sold worldwide by January 2011.
The free St Austell Brewery In My Pocket app provides smartphone users with a range of features – including a search facility and guide to all St Austell Brewery pubs, hotels and inns as well as to the brewery’s award-winning range of beers. The app also enables customers to buy their favourite bottled beers online for home delivery.
Customers will be able to use a feedback option to rate beers and comment on their last visit to a St Austell Brewery pub, plus keep up-to-date with news, offers and promotions from the Brewery and from their local pubs.
One of the most innovative features is the Ale Trail game, which gives people the chance to earn prizes as they visit more St Austell Brewery pubs.
Jeremy Mitchell, Director of Marketing at St Austell Brewery, said: “We are very excited to be one of the first branching into this world of technology.
“More and more pub customers are already using smartphones and the St Austell Brewery in My Pocket app will be a fun way for local people to keep in touch with us and with their favourite pubs while also providing a valuable facility for visitors to the area.
“Last year 4.9 million people holidayed in Cornwall and 9.9 million visited on day trips. For visitors to be able to search instantly for the St Austell Brewery pub nearest them and to check what it offers will be a great convenience.
“We want all our customers to feel like locals for life and being able to stay in touch and get exclusive offers via the app will be a big part of that. Also the new app will provide our pubs with instant feedback so they know what they’re doing right and also identify any areas for improvement.”
The app is only available to iphone users at present but will be available to all smartphones within the next two weeks.
