Rugby teams from across Cornwall came together to celebrate the end of the season at the Tribute league awards on Friday (06 May).
The evening, held at St Austell Brewery Visitor Centre, also marked the fourth season of the Brewery’s award winning Tribute ale sponsoring grass roots rugby in the South West.
Clubs from all over the county were joined by officials from the Cornwall RFU and South West Competitions Committees to celebrate the success of the winners and present them with their Tribute league trophies.
Camborne-based Veor RFC picked up the most awards on the night, as winners of the Cornwall League as well as the Goldsworthy Cup and Alan Barbary Cup for having the highest percentage of wins against games played.
Penryn RFC also celebrated after being crowned as Western Counties West champions, securing their promotion to South West 1 West.
The Tribute ‘You’ve Earned It’ award went to Lankelly Fowey RFC, in recognition of their endeavours to keep the team going despite their struggles during the past season.
Jeremy Mitchell, Marketing Director for St Austell Brewery said: “The Tribute league awards are a great chance for all the teams to get together and celebrate the successes of the past season.
“St Austell Brewery is proud to have been the main sponsor of the South West rugby leagues for the past 4 years and to have firmly established Tribute as the official beer of South West rugby. It seems a natural fit for Tribute, Cornwall’s favourite beer to sponsor Cornwall’s favourite game and we look forward to supporting Cornish rugby in the new season.”
