A taste of Norway - March 2nd

A Taste of Norway in Cornwall
Diners visiting the Norway Inn in Perranarworthal, near Truro, next week (Friday March 2) can experience a true taste of Norway. SKREI®– a very special, seasonal Norwegian cod – will be featuring on the menu for one night only.

Skrei is a special type of Norwegian Cod - only the very best of this migrating cod will meet the strict criteria to become quality graded SKREI® a lean and tasty fish, of the highest quality.

Known as ‘the Norwegian miracle’, SKREI® was recently launched at Harrods in London at a special luncheon and now diners in Cornwall can have their own taste of this superior spring cod, renowned for its lean, flaky meat and delicious flavour. Like all of Norway’s cod, this premium quality fish is sustainably managed and MSC certified.

The aptly named pub will be hosting the one-off menu, which will feature a number of delicious dishes with the prime cod.  On the evening, and subject to availability, the following dishes will be available:

  • Pan-fried SKREI®fillet, served with butter, capers and lemon or with mash and spinach.
  • Traditional Norwegian style, poached SKREI®
  • SKREI® carpaccio with tomatoes, garlic and chilli

This is the first time that SKREI®has been made available in the UK. The cod is only available between January and April each year and is only found off the Norway coastline in limited supplies, caught using sustainable methods.

Anthony Wildgoose, landlord at the Norway Inn, said: “We’re really looking forward to cooking up a delicious cod feast using the authentic Skrei.  What’s extra special is the fact that we’re the only people lucky enough to be serving this exceptional cod outside the capital. We’ve come up with a number of dishes to show off Skrei to its best potential, and we hope that fish-loving Cornish diners will enjoy savouring a true taste of Norway so close to home.”

To complete the savoury choices available, a number of Norwegian themed desserts will also be on offer including Fattigman and Krumkake cookies.
