St Austell Brewery is launching a brand new apprenticeship in partnership with Cornwall College Business, which will prepare the next generation of publicans for the trade.
The Licensed Hospitality apprenticeship has been designed for individuals wishing to work in pubs, hotels and restaurants and will provide young people with the necessary legal qualifications as well as valuable practical experience within the industry.
St Austell Brewery is now looking for interested applicants to attend an assessment centre, where the most committed and talented will be selected as a pool of star candidates to work in St Austell Brewery establishments across Cornwall. The apprenticeship, accredited by the British Institute of Innkeepers (Bll) will allow young people the opportunity to earn a real wage, get experience of a real working environment whilst learning from industry experts at Cornwall College.
Kathryn Jewell, 18, from Truro is about to complete a hospitality apprenticeship at the White Hart Hotel, St Austell through Cornwall College. Fiona Rundle, General Manager at the White Hart said: “St Austell Brewery has long been committed to training and development of people in the hospitality sector. Recruiting apprentices like Kathryn allows us to give something back and pass on the knowledge and skills acquired during our years in the industry. Kathryn has been a joy to work with and has grown in confidence hugely since she started in September last year. We hope this will be the launch pad of a successful career for her.”
Dave Linnell, Principal and CEO of Cornwall College said: “The St Austell Brewery apprentices will be taking part in the only apprenticeship of its kind in Cornwall which focuses on the essential skills needed for the licensed hospitality trade. We are delighted to have been able to work in partnership with St Austell Brewery to develop this specific and valuable apprenticeship.”
The Licensed Hospitality Apprenticeship is ideal for entry level applicants from 16 years and above.
