Truro’s Latest Eatery Unveiled: Quills

Quills restaurantThe Wig & Pen in Truro is turning over a new chapter and opening Quills restaurant.

The relaxed fine dining restaurant will officially open downstairs in the popular St Austell Brewery city pub on Tuesday 17th July 2012.

To celebrate the opening, on Friday 13th July, an exclusive ‘pay what you think it’s worth’ opening event is being held.

The menu at Quills will change weekly and will reflect what’s in season and available from local fishermen.  At the helm in the kitchen is head chef and landlord, Tim Robinson, who trained under Gary Rhodes at his Michelin starred Rhodes 24, and Johnnie Mountain (as seen on The Great British Menu).

Georgie Robinson, Landlady at The Wig & Pen, said: “We’re proud that The Wig & Pen is already well established for its food offering and we’re aiming for Quills to take this one step further.  Diners can expect a fine dining restaurant with a twist; no two items of furniture are the same!”

The menu planned for the first night on July 13th includes:

  • Seared Carpaccio of Beef w Rocket & Gorgonzola Salad, Balsamic Onions, Blue Cheese Beignet and Grilled Cornish Asparagus w Soft Boiled Quails Egg, Parmesan, Crispy Capers and Truffle Oil.
  • There are five choices of main course including: Roast Seabass w Roast Fennel, Dried Tomatoes, Cornish New Potatoes, Tapenade, Pickled Fennel or Confit Shoulder of Lamb w Celeriac Puree, Roasted Carrots, Colcannon Mash, Lamb Jus.
  • Finally, the dessert menu includes Creme Brulee w Sticky Toffee Squares and Gingerbread w Oranges in Caramel, Citrus Creme Fraiche to name but a few.

Landlady Georgie added: “The downstairs area in the Wig & Pen was once a popular venue for bands and we’re pleased to be able to inject a new lease of life into this intimate area of the pub. As the building is listed, the refurbishment is tasteful and compliments the traditional overall look.”

The Wig & Pen scooped the top accolade for Catering Excellence Business of the year in the St Austell Brewery Estate Award’s at the start of the year.

Quills is open Tuesday – Saturday evenings from 7-9.30pm. To book a table contact 01872 273028.
