Austell Brewery is the major player in the south west wholesaling
business, with our trading area now extending as far as Avon, Dorset
and Wiltshire. We have a large portfolio of all the major beer, lager,
cider and soft drink brands, as well as providing many of the niche
brands that are sometimes difficult to obtain. Our beer and lager range
is based on the Carlsberg Tetley brands, for whom we are the main
supplier in Cornwall.

In addition, we can offer a fabulous range of fine wines and spirits, through Walter Hicks Fine Wine Merchants who are an important part of the St Austell Brewery. We are seen as the South West’s experts in wine and our annual wine fair is perhaps the largest of its type outside of London.
In a trading area where flexibility and service levels are key, we pride ourselves on being the best in the area. Unlike many of our major competitors, we have 8 depots, each of which serves customers within a 25-mile radius. This means we can react instantly and provide delivery times and days to suit your business.

Wines from Walter Hicks Fine Wine Merchants
Walter Hicks Fine Wine Merchants is a core element of St Austell Brewery supplying fine wines and spirits to the licensed trade.
We have the most comprehensive range of wines in Cornwall and Devon and quite possibly the south west. We also have the only bonded warehouse in Cornwall, plus our annual wine fair is the largest of its kind anywhere in the U.K. outside of London.
Our current wine list covers wines from over 22 countries, ranging from some exclusive vintages and strong brands, to obscure and exciting wines from far-flung places around the world.
As well as supplying wines, we pride ourselves on our knowledge and are always pleased to advise and help our customers develop wine lists, suitable for their own businesses and tastes. In addition, we also have our own in-house design and printing service where we can print your wine list.
Wine is a truly fascinating subject and we are always pleased to help our customers indulge their passions for the grape. Finally, if we don’t have the wine you require in stock, we are always happy to try to source this for you.

In 1869, the complicated purchase complete, Walter Hicks built a 'steam brewery' and grand dwelling house on the site of the inn, the two of which came to be known in later years as Tregonissey House and still grace the expanse of Market Street, opposite the church, today. At the same time he acquired property running up to No. 8 Market Hill for use as offices and a malt house. The new brewery was described in 1873 as 'an extensive building, chiefly of granite, and fitted with all the modern appliances suitable for carrying on a large business.'

Spirits
We stock a comprehensive selection of spirit brands including a range of own-label products such as Sabre Vodka and Mena Dhu Whisky. Our most famous spirit brand is the Walter Hicks 125 Rum, the strongest commercially bottled rum available anywhwere in the U.K.
