They may be newcomers, but it's definitely a case of 'it's in the blood' as Adam
Sprague and Carly Price, who run the Western Inn in St Austell were crowned
Britain's Best Newcomers at the prestigious Publican Awards in London
recently. When they took over the pub they brought with them some exciting new
ideas as well as an impressive family history of working with St Austell
Brewery.
Celebrating their victory in front of an audience of 1,800 pub
landlords and drinks industry leaders, Adam said he and Carly were stunned to
hear themselves announced as winners and continued, "The whole thing is amazing.
We're delighted and very proud."

Held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London The Publican Awards are the Oscars of the pub industry. St Austell Brewery managing director James Staughton was full of praise for Carly and Adam. "We are all incredibly proud of them and of their success in running such a wonderful community pub at the Western Inn.
He continued, "Adam and Carly's achievements are the result of hard work, imagination and excellent relationships with their staff and customers - for all those reasons they fully deserve the recognition they have received with this award."

Adam, 27, and Carly, 22, have put in a lot of effort to ensure the Western has that magic atmosphere of a village pub that makes it the heart of a community, alongside striving to improve the overall quality of the pub.
They have been duly rewarded for their effort by becoming the only pub in St Austell to feature in the Good Beer Guide 2006. They also achieved a Cask Marque Beautiful Beer Award and the Best kept cellar award in the St Austell Brewery Estate Awards. Mind you when your father is Head of Quality Control at St Austell Brewery and your grandparents were cellar supervisors, you had better keep on your toes!

Adam himself worked at the brewery with the 'Wines and Spirits' team until he took over the Western Inn. And if you thought it was all Adams' side of the family think again. Carly's parents are also in the buiness and are both pub landlords. Her father at the Carlyon Arms, St Austell and her mother runs the Parr Inn, Parr. And it does't stop there. Carly's grandparents were also landlords at the Green Parrot, Perranporth. No pressure there then?
