Winners of the Wine House of the Year Award and Best Turnaround Pub (Tenancy) Award at the St Austell Brewery Estate Awards 2011.

The Mill on the Exe is a spectacular pub in a beautiful location. With tranquil waterside gardens next to Blackaller Weir and the Millstone footbridge, the pub is still only a stone’s throw away from the bustle of Exeter city centre, the university and Exeter St David’s Railway Station.

Well-known local publicans John Milan and Steve Bellman took over the Mill on the Exe at the end of 2010. New managers, Ashley Millgate and Janice Thomas, look forward to welcoming you to the pub.

The Mill on the Exe is a great place for drinking, eating, meeting and partying. The pub’s layout is flexible and can be cosy and casual or spacious and corporate.

Spread across two floors, we can accommodate different groups and events and in the summer our riverside terracing is a popular place for relaxing. Whether you want a quite meal for two or a private party for 70 people, we can accommodate you.

Opening hours

The bar is open from 10.30am - 11.00pm everyday.

Food is served from 12.00noon to 9.00pm everyday.

Children welcome. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome throughout the pub.

We offer a wide range of dishes from light snacks to substantial main courses. We use fresh, seasonal produce and change our specials menu daily.

In the summer, our big charcoal barbecues on the riverside terrace are extremely popular and it's advisable to book for our equally popular Sunday carvery.

Wherever possible, we source our ingredients from local farmers and fishermen. To make the most of the carefully selected produce, your food is cooked to order and may sometimes take a little longer to be served. We always do our best to serve you as quickly and efficiently as we can.

We serve real ales from the westcountry's leading brewery, St Austell, and always have a good range of real ales on tap. We also sell Rattler Cornish cider, plus a wide range of whiskies - so, all in all, a pretty well-stocked bar!

We also have an extensive wine list full of very drinkable wines, plus some more exotic sparkling wines and champagnes for those special occasions.

The Mill on the Exe was a paper mill until the 1960s, and the original water wheel used to turn the machinery is now a feature in the pub's gardens. The old mill was converted into a pub, which has been owned by St Austell Brewery since 1994.

The Mill on the Exe offers extremely flexible accommodation across its two floors. With our easy access and ample parking this makes us an ideal venue for both private and business functions.

Upstairs, we have a mix of formal and informal areas and we can easily accommodate small meetings or parties.

Downstairs, with its own separate access and bar, we can offer private facilities for up to 75 people for a sit down meal, and up to 110 for a buffet or party.

We have produced a range of hot, cold and finger buffet menus and a sample three-course menu to illustrate what our talented team can produce. Please go to our website www.millontheexe.com to see examples. We will be happy to discuss your personal requirements - please contact Janice on 01392 214464.

Disabled access

We have good disabled access, and disabled toilets, on both floors, but there is no disabled access between the two floors.
