The Castle Inn is a traditional 16th century inn situated in Lydford, on the Western slopes of Dartmoor National Park. Built in 1550, its plain pink exterior offers no clues as to what awaits you inside. It oozes with character from every nook and cranny. The lamp-lit bar has low bowed ceilings, many curios, slate floors and an open fire; there is a lovely snug with high backed settles and a charming restaurant with beamed ceiling. The Castle Inn was a film location for The Hound of the Baskervilles which was filmed in the 1980’s; it is probable that Sir Conan Doyle visited the Castle Inn on his visits to Lydford. There is a pretty garden to the back of the inn with more seating and views of the castle. If you are looking for somewhere to stay, we have a total of eight guest bedrooms, all en-suite with television.

The historic town of Lydford is an ideal base for walking excursions into Dartmoor National Park with its granite moorland, the Sourton Tors Stone Circle and the nearby peaks of Yves Tor and HighWillhayes. Local attractions include Lyford Castle and Lydford Gorge, a deep gorge surrounded by ancient woodland and now managed by the National Trust.

We look forward to welcoming you. Rob & Sue Kelly.

We have a total of 8 ensuite guest bedrooms including a large room with its own roof terrace overlooking the garden and the 12th century castle next door. There are also two rooms with additional futon beds, one four poster and four cottage rooms each with their own individual character.
