You have worked us very hard over the last year at Walter Hicks, stretching us to buy and sell more wines and more diverse wines than ever. To fulfil your needs, we have been working even more closely with our suppliers and producers at source to update blends and improve all aspects of our wine range, ensuring that our offering to you is as good as it possibly can be. It is a huge and changing wine world out there and we are always on the hunt for the new, the fashionable, the rare, the interesting, the unique and the perfect – at the right price – and we fully intend to add them to our list for you as we run them to earth.

As you may have noticed we have a new logo for Walter Hicks, designed to give a clearer identity to the wine and spirits company of St Austell Brewery. We are very proud to be a part of St Austell Brewery and indeed that the founder of this great family brewery was a wine merchant in the 1850s before he dived into the world of brewing. We are keen to show that his spirit lives on in our specialist wine company, with its innovative and enquiring approach, firm belief in quality without compromise, and commitment to good value at all levels.
We hope you will enjoy the new wines as well as the old favourites. Explore a little, tell us what you think and challenge us. And we will do our utmost to provide you with whatever you need from the great and exciting mind-bending world that is wine.
As always, it is our pleasure to trade with you.

BRIEF GUIDES FOR THE SHORT OF TIME
Following the success of last year’s Brief Guides, we are again providing you with a quick reference section and some useful information for the serving of wine.
First we have listed all the red wines and then white wines in price order 168.84 Kb, so you can see what we have to offer at your vital price points. We have then repeated the exercise with all our rosé wines and sweet & fortified wines.
Then we have listed all our Red wines 111.62 Kb and White wines 80.24 Kb by grape variety, to provide a different perspective on our list. So if you have an idea of what you are looking for, you don’t have to flick from page to page to compare similar wines.
We have also pulled out all our halves and quarter bottles and put them together with wine boxes 59.29 Kb, so you can see the full range uninterrupted.
Liz Robertson MW has put together an informed and informative piece about the merits of offering a range of wines by the glass 41.05 Kb, and how to select your range to maximise profits as well as raise consumer interest in wine.
We also briefly discuss wine faults 37.86 Kb and how to spot them, explaining their origin for the more technically minded.
To help with your commercial decisions and to maximize your profitability we have included a simple Profit Calculator, so you can set your margins, and establish your desired list price from your cost price.
There is also an explanation of the wine styles used throughout this list.
New for this year is a little technical information on How To Make Wine Sparkle 37.86 Kb, highlighting the differences in sparkling wine production and how this affects the wine in the glass for your customer.
