JAMES STAUGHTON

Chief Executive

Great-great grandson of the company founder, Walter Hicks, James joined St Austell Brewery in 1980 and was appointed to the Board in 1988. James was Wines and Spirits Director 1990-2000 and became Managing Director in 2000. Outside work James is a Non-Executive Director of the Cornwall Development Company, Chairman of the Independent Family Brewers of Britain and Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Cornwall.

STEVE WORRALL

Retail Director

Steve joined St Austell Brewery in 2017 as Retail Director and was elected to the Board later that year. He took responsibility for the Retail Managed Estate in July that year and in January 2018 picked up responsibility for the Tenanted Estate. Steve brings with him over twenty years’ experience of pub hospitality and retailing, encompassing senior Operations, Marketing and Commercial roles across the sector; alongside an Executive MBA from Ashridge. 

COLIN STRATTON

Finance Director and Company Secretary

Colin started his career in Market Research before training as a Chartered Accountant and working for Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Colin joined St Austell Brewery in 1996 and was appointed Company Secretary in 1998. 

TAMSYN HAWKINS

People Director

Tamsyn joined us in March 2018 and is responsible for ensuring St Austell Brewery attracts, develops, rewards and retains the best people to grow our business and to deliver a great service for our customers. Tamsyn also oversees the company’s training and development centre which provides a range of courses for those interested in a career in the licensed hospitality industry. Tamsyn brings over 20 years’ experience in the restaurant and retail sectors, across various roles encompassing human resources, operations and talent management.

JEREMY MITCHELL

Marketing and Communications Director

Jeremy joined us in 2004 and heads up the Marketing and Communications function to support the beer brands, the pub estate and our wholesale business as well as the Brewery Visitor Centre. Marketing and Communications at St Austell Brewery includes brand strategy, advertising, PR, digital, graphic design, events and Company archives. Before St Austell Brewery, Jeremy was Brand Marketing Manager at Zurich and has also worked for Cable & Wireless, Reuters and the University of London

IAN BLUNT

Sales and Distribution Director

Ian joined the Company in 1993 when St Austell Brewery bought Carlsberg’s free trade business in Cornwall. Since then Ian has led our growing Free Trade wholesale business. Ian also became responsible for the Company’s warehousing and distribution service in 2009. Ian is Chairman of the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust which works with our employees, customers, publicans and suppliers to raise funds for charities and worthy causes in South West England.

MARTIN BREADING

National Sales Director

Martin joined St Austell Brewery in 2012 and leads the national and international sales of our own beers. Prior to this in 2009 Martin started up The Real Beer Company a wholesale company specializing in Cask Beers and Traditional Ciders. St Austell Brewery bought the Real Beer Company in 2013. Martin’s career also includes 15 years with Waverley TBS, starting out in field sales in 1994, and joining the Waverley Board in 2001 as Commercial and Marketing Director

ROGER RYMAN

Brewing Director

Roger joined us as Head Brewer in 1999 when he moved from Maclay & Co, Scotland. Having previously worked at Scottish & Newcastle Breweries, Roger is Graduate of Heriot Watt University and is a Master Brewer (Institute of Brewing and Distilling). Twice awarded Brewer of the Year, Roger’s creativity and brewing nous have helped ensure St Austell’s position at the leading edge of UK brewing

PIERS THOMPSON

External Relations Director

Great-great grandson of the company founder, Walter Hicks, Piers joined St Austell Brewery in 1996 and initially worked in the tenanted division.  Since 2002 he has been instrumental in growing our national sales business and enabling the Company to achieve volumes of our own production of over 100,000 barrels a year. He was appointed to the Board in November 2011.  His extensive experience in all areas of the business gives him a unique insight into the operation of the Company.
