Pulling power at the Brewery
There’ll be more than pints being pulled at our Visitor Centre on Saturday 23rd February, as the inaugural Tribute Indoor Rowing Championships takes centre stage, offering children, adults and veterans alike the chance to go for gold.

Organised in conjunction with Gigrower magazine, the new annual event is designed to allow all members of the gig rowing and wider rowing communities the chance to test their fitness to the limits after their long winter training regimes. Running alongside will be fun competitions for all ages and abilities to win prizes galore.

The races will be undertaken on Concept2 indoor rowing machines and will consist either of set distances or timings. Kicking off from 10am on February 23rd, events already scheduled include: Men’s and Women’s aged categories from 30+, Junior Races, Men’s, Women’s & Mixed Relays, plus the main Open categories, with medals for all junior competitors and rewards for the top three in all adult events.

For those aged 16 and above, races will be staged over 2000 metres, with the mixed relay teams racing over an extended 3000 metre course. Boys and girls will race for either 4 minutes or 6 minutes dependent on age.

Our Marketing and Communications Director, Jeremy Mitchell, said:” We’ve sponsored gig rowing from the early days and we’re thrilled to be taking our commitment to the sport to a whole new level with the Indoor Championships here at the Brewery. It’s the perfect way to kick off the rowing season as all of the teams work towards peak fitness in time for the Tribute sponsored World Gig Championships in May out on Scilly.”

For those wanting to test their mettle against the finest, there’s still time to book a place in both individual and team events and there’s also a special turn up on the day, bonus 500 metre sprint for those who just want to have a go. The special £3 entry sprint will allow anybody of any age to have a go and fastest will take the win.

For those travelling from afar to take part in the Championships, we're also offering discount rates for accommodation at our local hotels and inns, while a special menu will be laid on at the Visitor Centre across the day for those taking part. Following the presentation of medals for all competitions, the Cornish Pilot Gig Association will be holding an evening event to distribute awards and commendations for team efforts across the 2018 gig rowing season.
