Victory at the Victoria
When Team Vic’s Natalie Whear & Holli Pike from The Victoria Inn decided to run a competition, they contacted Henry Milton, their Carlsberg sales rep to see if he could help.

#HolliandNat (their digital name) launched the competition at our two pubs, the Victoria Inns in Roche and Threemilestone that are run by Inn Cornwall that also recently took over the Norway Inn in Perranworthal.

Sponsored by Carlsberg Export, it was a wonderful opportunity to win a trip for two people at the Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen with a brewery tour, lunch at the Carlsberg headquarters with beer - of course, flight tickets to Copenhagen and a 2-night hotel stay.

The competition was launched in August and ran for two months in the pubs and online via Facebook. Customers who bought Carlsberg Export as well as customers who posted their pictures with Carlsberg Export on social media were entered into the competition.

With well over 2,000 entries, twenty-four were shortlisted for the final round and on November 8th, with a film that was streamed live on social media from the Norway Inn, Mel Hudson a customer from the Victoria Inn, Roche was picked as the lucky winner.

It was indeed a well-earned winner since Mel Hudson and her family had been through a difficult time following a stroke that her husband Stuart suffered three years ago and then this year, Mel was made redundant from her job. To re-kindle their spirits following the job loss news, the couple went to the Victoria and while there, Stuart convinced Mel to enter the competition.

Mel was absolutely delighted to hear the good news and cannot wait to go to Copenhagen with Stuart following his recovery from the stroke that he suffered. As anyone dealing with a stroke patient knows, it’s a long, arduous and deeply emotional journey to recovery for the patient and the carer.

The team from Inn Cornwall are very much part of their customers lives and involved in the communities. When they realised that Mel and Stuart had won the competition, they decided that if there was any worthy winner it was the Hudsons and they decided to treat them by paying for an extra night at Copenhagen as well as for the car parking at the airport.

The generosity of the Victoria team did not end there and they invited Mel and Stuart to the Victoria Inn, Roche on November 23rd for photographs and lunch since it was Stuart’s birthday.

Natalie Whear said, “We are so happy that we could make a difference to their lives. Our customers mean the world to us and the Hudsons absolutely deserve this. We’re successful only because our customers return to our pubs and we all feel like one big happy family.”

Justin Barnett & Mark Holden the duo behind Inn Cornwall, the Cornwall-based company that runs Victoria Inn in Roche, Victoria Inn in Threemilestone and the Norway Inn in Perranworthal were shortlisted for this year’s BII Licensee of the Year Award. They truly believe in the Pub is the Hub principle and are involved in numerous community projects recently raising  £14,000 to build a new radial lounge for the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust’s Cornwall Heart Unit Fund (CHUF).
