The third season of our much-loved Small Batch beer club kicks off with a real belter from down under, created by Roger Ryman showcasing two distinct Australian hop varieties, Ella and Melba.
Dry hopped for extra fullness of flavour, Ella is based on a skilled blend of Cornish Maris Otter with Vienna malt, slightly darker than a pale malt, to add a deeper colour and toasty aroma. The addition of the bitter amber malt serves to balance the brew to perfection.
Ella, hailed by Beeradvocate.com as the next ‘it’ hop in 2015, adds a truly zesty spiciness to the brew while Melba, known affectionately as ‘the dame of hops’ down under, brings forward a delicious mix of citrus and tropical fruit flavours when used as an aroma addition.

St Austell cask ales, in line with the vast majority of other cask ales produced in the UK, are clarified by the addition of isinglass finings to the beer in the cask.
As isinglass finings are derived from fish collagen, cask ales are not suitable for vegans or vegetarians.
