Jewel in the Crown 4.8%

St Austell Brewery Brewing Manager Rob Orton welcomed Roger Jones, Richard Dempster and Craig Lewis to brew a collaboration beer for the Small Batch Beer Club. The trio who set up Bath Ales in 1995 chose to brew a traditional English ale to pay homage to a style of beer that’s synonymous with Bath Ales. Using St Austell Brewery’s signature super soft water and Bath Ales’ distinctive yeast strain along with Maris Otter, Crystal, Wheat and Chocolate malts as a base, English hops Challenger and Goldings were chosen to complete this English ale that was then fermented at a slightly higher temperature as a nod to the Bath Ales’ method. This beautifully-balanced and easy-drinking ale is indeed a Jewel in the Crown.

St Austell cask ales, in line with the vast majority of other cask ales produced in the UK, are clarified by the addition of isinglass finings to the beer in the cask.
As isinglass finings are derived from fish collagen, cask ales are not suitable for vegans or vegetarians.
