Turnpike Inn , Connor Downs
The Turnpike Inn is a great community pub serving great food, benefiting from investment over the past few years the site has gone from strength to strength. The trading style incorporates a carvery offering that supports their main menu but still manages to retain a strong drinking trade of locals. Situated close to the Golden beaches of Hayle and close to the picturesque fishing town of St Ives and surrounded by Holiday parks the Turnpike benefits from a large seasonal uplift. With spacious grounds and well-maintained gardens the Turnpike has also been the centre of the community activities in Connor Downs with garden parties, charity events and beer festivals.
The trade areas are open plan with three distinct sections, as you enter the main entrance you come face to face with the bar, there is a seating area directly in front of the bar (a favourite home for the locals). To the left beyond this area is a further seating area with approximately 20 covers used both for eating and drinking. As you enter and to the right of the bar is the main dining and carvery area with covers for 40 diners. To the rear is a large beer garden well maintained. A Children’s play area and seating for 60 plus. To the front is an attractive and well-maintained garden area catering for 50 covers. The trade Kitchen is well equipped and spacious, it has benefited from a recent refurbishment and will enable any operator to offer a wide and varied menu. The beer cellar is on the ground floor, situated in a corridor to the rear of the bar.
The Turnpike accommodation is very spacious offering 5 bedrooms, a fully equipped private Kitchen, Bathroom, office and large well-lit lounge. In addition to this, there are two garages and other ample storage space.
The Turnpike would suit a community minded operator who has a passion for great food and attention to detail. Ideally an experienced caterer who has demonstrated the ability to run a dynamic food operation. They would also need the versatility to react in a fast-evolving tourist market but retaining the ability to cater for the vital local trade in the village.
