A pooch-friendly walk between Bristol and Bath

A day out on the Bristol and Bath Railway Path with your four-legged friend provides a refreshing blend of fresh air, sightseeing and paws-on-the-path adventure. This traffic-free, 13-mile stretch follows a disused railway line between two iconic cities: Bristol with its boundary-pushing food scene and cool street culture, and Bath with its honey-stoned elegance and Roman roots.

The route is almost entirely flat, making it a relaxing stroll for humans and hounds alike. Start in Bristol and amble eastward through shaded woodland, open countryside and pockets of railway heritage. Keep your eyes peeled for quirky sculptures and steam engines at Bitton, and consider a stop for water bowls and coffee at one of the converted station cafes en route.

Once you reach Bath, wind your way along the riverside to Lower Weston and reward yourself – and your pooch – with a pitstop at The Locksbrook Inn. Set beside the canal and just a short hop from the path, this dog-friendly pub is a haven for walkers and waggers alike.
